The Duskbloods Vassals Explained: Contracts and Combat Support

A companion you earn during the match

Vassals are not a decorative summon. In the Network Test, a player could find a magic circle in the field and make a contract with one. The vassal then remained available for the rest of that battle unless it was defeated.

That makes the early map a little more interesting: choosing when to look for a contract can be just as important as chasing an immediate fight. A vassal gives you another body in combat, but it also asks you to manage its health and timing.

How contracts worked in the test build

The magic circles were grouped by type, with a random choice from the relevant pool. Replacing a contracted vassal reset that companion’s level, so changing your mind was possible but not free.

Why they mattered

In a crowded fight, a vassal can add pressure, cover an approach, distract an enemy, or provide support. That is valuable in the open phases, but it matters even more once the match narrows. Test coverage noted that vassals could be summoned in the final confrontation too, so the last phase was not always a clean one-on-one exchange of player moves.

The sensible lesson is not that one vassal is “best.” It is that a contract should fit the situation you expect to face. A support companion can help a fragile character keep moving; an aggressive one may be better when you need to contest an objective.

What remains open

The full launch pool, balance, UI, and final contract rules have not been announced. Treat Network Test descriptions as a useful foundation, not a permanent tier list.
