Every Virtue Type in The Duskbloods Network Test
How Hunt, Light, Sword, Oath, and Acclaim Virtue were earned in The Duskbloods Network Test and how they affected culling.
Why did Virtue matter?
Virtue was the score used by the Grail to cull players as a Dusk Battle progressed. During Phases II and III, only Bloodsworn with enough Virtue advanced. The system rewarded combat, exploration, collection, and objectives rather than treating player eliminations as the only route to survival.
How was Hunt Virtue earned?
Hunt Virtue came from defeating Formidable Foes and the more dangerous external enemies called Invaders. The official guide warns that these enemies were difficult and recommends strengthening the Bloodsworn before challenging them.
Invader battles could invite nearby Bloodsworn into temporary cooperation, adding a PvE decision inside the wider PvPvE match.
How was Light Virtue earned?
Players earned Light Virtue by lighting the skulls of seated corpses found throughout the Lands of Dusk. Larger corpses granted more Virtue, but only the first player to light a particular skull could claim that opportunity.
This made exploration and arrival timing relevant even without fighting another player.
How did Sword and Oath Virtue work?
Both types were tied to the Ritual Ground, which appeared after time passed in Phases II and III.
| Type | Confirmed way to earn it |
|---|---|
| Sword Virtue | Defeat another Bloodsworn inside the Ritual Ground. Kills outside did not award it. |
| Oath Virtue | Swear at a Bloodsworn Oath Pillar; the Virtue was lost if another oath overwrote yours. |
Players could carry either a Red Stone or a Gold Stone from seats in the Ritual Ground. Red increased Sword Virtue gains, while Gold increased Oath Virtue gains. Leaving the Ritual Ground after entering caused damage as a withdrawal penalty.
What was Acclaim Virtue?
Two Acclaim rankings awarded Virtue at the end of each phase. The top two players in each ranking received the reward.
| Acclaim | How its score increased |
|---|---|
| Bloodfang Acclaim | Defeating enemies of any type. |
| Collector’s Acclaim | Finding items through exploration, with rare or newly discovered items worth more. |
Items dropped by defeated enemies did not count toward Collector’s Acclaim. This distinction gave exploration its own scoring route instead of making every reward depend on combat.
Were these the only ways to gain Virtue?
No. The official guide also confirms relationship-based Sigil objectives that awarded Virtue when completed. Events and alliance decisions could reshape a match as well. This page separates the named Virtue categories, while the gameplay loop overview explains how they fit into the four phases.
